The day after...

I slept ok last night, better than I had expected for the first night without the cat. I felt confident about walking through the house in the dark without having to worry about stepping on the cat anywhere, however, it was difficult looking at the couch a few times today, which was one of his favorite relaxing spots, aside from the foot of my bed. I forgot to mention a few things in the blog yesterday... I think... so I thought I would cover them. If I had mentioned everything, sorry it's repetitive, I just don't feel like reading that post right now. :( A few things I forgot to mention about Remi... the most important... when he was on the table, before the Dr. came in the first time, he kept rubbing his head against my hand, he hadn't done that for several days. It was as if he knex exactly what was going to happen; he either was thanking me for taking care of him, having him put to sleep so he wouldn't suffer anymore, or saying goodbye, he didn't want to go, but he knew it was for the best. :(
One picture I really wanted to get but did not give myself the chance; a couple of times, he propped himself on the back of the couch and stuck his head out of the living room curtains; I wanted to take a picture from outside. I will not forget the one time he watched me take a bath, then shower down & wash my hair... that PERVERT! LOL!
One sad, final note.. when the Dr. asked which shelter we adopted through and we told him, "South Bay something or rather, South Valley maybe?), he did not have a high regard for them, he said they had problems with them before. :( We will do some very careful selecting with a couple of resources that we know personally before selecting another cat. Today was sad for me, and I will probably have a few in the near future to get over the initial shock and hurt. I'm hoping we can find an equally mellow cat that will live a full and healthy life...

RIP Remillard =(

We got back a few minutes ago from Acacia to say our final goodbyes to the cat. He had not been doing well for the last week or two, so we took him into the vet last week. He had a mild fever, and just went downhill with barely eating to only drinking a little bit of water. There were some tests done, and further testing needed to be done to make a clear diagnosis as to why the kitty has been so sick. Unfortunately the further testing wouild take SEVERAL WEEKS, and we did not want to see the kitty suffer anymore - when we took him into Acacia today, his adrenaline was running wild, and at this point, he was pretty much skin and bones. The Dr. came in and gave him a sedative and gave it ten minutes to work its way into Remi's system, during which time he spit some of it up. Then when the Dr. came in and did the final euthanization, Remi put up a very mild fight, it did not take very long for him to be gone, it was hard watching all of this, even when the Dr. shaved one of his legs a little bit. I had a hard time leaving the clinic I did not want to stop petting even though he was listless. What was suspected was Feline Infectious Paritinitis; the cat had been slightly anemic throughout his battle as well. From what I learned of FIP, there is no cure and almost a 100% mortality rate. It is contracted among other cats, it's very contagious. We are going to contact the lady we adopted him from just to give her a cautionary. There is a vaccine for FIP but there's no guarantee that it will be very successful. We may get another cat in the future, right now I just want to grieve for awhile. :( I took a couple of pictures with John and the cat last night, I hadn't even done that, I'm glad we got a few pictures of him, John got some with me, but we did not get to get any with both of us and the kitty. To this date we had him exactly four weeks ant the last two were the hardest. :(

Just got back from the vet

Remillard was flopped out on the couch all night last night. I've become more of a light sleeper and usually know when he's moving around because of his bell. He didn't get up to eat or use the box at all.. this morning he looked really lethargic, and his eyes didn't look so good, kinda gunky. I changed his water, all he did was sniff it. When John came over and tried to get him to eat some fresh food he wouldn't eat. John did notice yesterday when he had changed the litter box, there was only traces of urine but no fecal matter... we called the vet, and the only possibilities were: Today, we could drop him off and the Drs would check on him throughout the day during their availability; or tomorrow we could take him in 9-12 first come first serve, we opted to take the kitty today and drop him off... We were almost home and the vet called and said they had an open spot so we went back. He has lost a little weight since we were last in, although not quite a pound. The Dr. took his temp and he has a slight fever, he took some blood and it will be checked overnight. The Dr. gave us eyedrops and hopefully we will be seeing him tomorrow. I'm just glad that he's home now, he seems to be a little perkier than he was this morning, I really wish he would eat. Thank you everyone for your concern, I'll keep you posted as I have more info.

Remillard Ramblings

Sorry guys, haven't taken any pictures lately... Remi has not been very energetic for the last few days so I haven't wanted to bug him. He's not eating or drinking a WHOLE lot, we're bouncing around on different food options. He either has another cold or is holding on to the one I spoke of last week. If not much improvement in the next couple of days or so back to the vet we go. He doesn't want to be held by me, I evenpetted him tonight after I got home and every time I tried to stroke he walked away.. John was here while I was gone and said he ate a little bit but not much. We tried some people tuna on him and he loved it.. John went and bought some kitty tuna and it seems to be doing something although not sure what. I myself have been somewhat congested for a little bit. I have been VERY cautious (paranoid) while moving around in bed, I haven't slept well the last couple of months.. it seems that when he's in a deep sleep things can easily startle him and I don't want to do that while he's not feeling well, cuz I know that's no fun. :( John and I had "the talk" and agreed that in the future if anything ever gets really bad with him that we would have him put to sleep. But hopefully he will bounce back and live a long and healthy life. :)

Remillard has been very quiet

Remillard has been a VERY quiet, and very good cat lately. The only thing that made me nervous was a few nights ago, we were both sound asleep until 3something in the morning, when some firecrackers or bottle rockets or the like had gone off. Fortunately it was all in one fell swoop. When they woke me up, I thought, "hm, the cat's not going crazy, maybe he bolted and I didn't feel or hear him." But when I sat up, he was at the end of the bed as usual, just staring at the window, no meows, nothing. That was completely amazing to me. I'm still in disbelief of how fortunate John and I are to have a very mellow cat, this helps with him being my first cat. :) He has warmed up to me more, and he LOVES sleeping on the end of my bed although he knows about his cat bed, he has an occasional interest in kneading it, but nothing more than that. He sleeps quite a lot, but I think I have him trained to sleep at night when humans sleep! HOOOORAY! I couldn't have asked for a better cat! :)

Crazy but good cat!

went a whole day without blogging! GASP! :) Not much to say really... Wednesday night, Remi camped out on the fllor, under the bed, everywhere except on my bed until morning. Last night, being Thursday, John and I went out for a few hours, Remi noticed we were gone but he didn't burn the place down. Things are getting better with my sleeping at night but not as good as I would like the pattern to be. I know, I know, the catowns ME! ;) I have to ekep owning up to that fact. I just love how remarkably well behaved he is! He's already been chewing off a lot of the dangling fishing rod toy we bought for him, I might have to get another surprise for him soon. This morning I was eating breakfast and he climbed up onto one of the stools where he's not supposed to be, and was heading for the counter. At the same time I looked down at him to say no, he slipped off the chair and bounced, he basically fell. He's ok, I think I just startled him, he still likes me. :) I noticed a cat outside, saw this cat wandering around when we first moved in. He was eyeballing me through the back kitchen door and Remi was right there. I banged the fishing rod thingie on the window a few times and chased that cat away, although he looked like he was headed around the corner for our struggling produce garden. I hope he didn't retaliate. I'll try to get a picture of Remi jumping in the air for the fishing rod thingie, he's a kic
